Our Story

I first met Tilly (Matilda) when she was 10 weeks old. She was born in a back garden aviary in Kent. There were three owlets in the clutch and she was the smallest.

Since coming home with us in 2018 Tilly has lived in the kitchen and often has passers-by intrigued when they see a flash of white flying across the kitchen or see her perched on the tap in the window. Someone even walked into the lampost while watching her.

Tilly eats mice and has a very good appetite. She gets fed in the same place each day by her bow perch BUT we often find mice in strange places !!

Tilly loves it when we are cooking and often sits on my husbands shoulder when he is cooking porridge - we think she likes the bubbles. She is also fascinated by carrot peelings- maybe they look like worms. She often lifts the lid to the mini compost bin on the worktop and throws peelings around.

Tilly is a favourite at our local pub and enjoys coming to work with me.

She has also been the star of many talks (RSPB Pagham Harbour “What went crunch in the Owls Lunch? ”, at local care homes, presentations to Young Farmer in Steyning, SBMG talk near Horsham and at Carers Meetings in Tangmere).

She is very happy to make guest appearances for a small donation towards MICE for dinner.
